We hereby invite PhD-students, academics, researchers, educators, school/university leaders, learning entrepreneurs, and other learning professionals with interest in the Learning Analytics field to participate in our local LASI event.
Keynote Speakers
Rebecca Fergurson
Rebecca Ferguson is a senior lecturer in the Institute of Educational Technology (IET) at The Open University, UK, and a senior fellow of the Higher Education Academy. Her primary research interests are educational futures and how people learn together online. Rebecca is an executive member of the Society for Learning Analytics Research and a leading member of the international learning analytics community.
Weiqin Chen
Weiqin Chen is a full professor in Human-Computer Interaction in Oslo and Akershus University College of Applied Science (HiOA) and an adjunct professor in SLATE at the University of Bergen. She has over 20 years research experience in the area of artificial intelligence in education. Her most recent research focuses on privacy issues and interoperability in learning analytics.

Learning Analytics in Higher Education: Challenges with Multiple Data Sources - Weiqin Chen
There has been a lot of excitement in recent years about how learning analytics can provide insights into learning and teaching and support evidence-based decision making in education. At the same time, the diversity of tools and sensors in a higher educational context and the diversity of data generated, pose great challenges to collection, integration and analysis of data, presentation and understanding of the analysis results, as well as privacy management. In this talk Chen will discuss these challenges in the context of existing literature and practices and look into the possible solutions to address the challenges

Learning Analytics: The Way Ahead - Dr. Rebecca FergursonLearning analytics involve the measurement, collection, analysis and reporting of data about learners and their contexts, in order to understand and optimise learning and the environments in which it occurs. Since emerging as a distinct field in 2011, learning analytics has grown rapidly, and institutions around the world are already developing and deploying these new tools. However, it is not enough for us to develop analytics for our educational systems as they are now – we need to take into account how teaching and learning will take place in the future. The current fast pace of change means that if, in 2007, we had begun developing learning analytics for 2017, we might not have planned specifically for learning with and through social networks (Twitter was only a year old), with smartphones (the first iPhone was released in 2007), or learning at scale (the term MOOC was coined in 2008). By thinking ahead and by consulting with experts, though, we might have come pretty close by taking into account existing work on networked learning, mobile learning and connectivism. This talk will examine ways in which learning analytics could develop in the future, highlighting issues that need to be taken into account. In particular, the learning analytics community needs to work together in order to develop a strong evidence base grounded in both research and practice.

ABOUT LASI-NORDIC
The LASI-Nordic draws together the Nordic learning analytics community to learn from experts, to share research and experience, and to investigate if there is a Nordic approach to learning analytics. Over two days there will be keynote talks, hands-on workshops, tutorials, panels, and a firehose & poster/demo session, in which to participate. First and foremost, however, LASI-Nordic 2017 will be a chance for participants to share, discuss, and shape how the Nordic countries use/want to use Learning Analytics to improve learning and teaching. Furthermore, the aim is to facilitate collaboration and sharing of knowledge on learning Analytics within the Nordic community, and determine if there is interest in developing a Nordic Special Interest Group (SIG) on Learning Analytics.
