Learning Analytics in Higher Education: Challenges with Multiple Data Sources

Professor, Weiqin Chen
There has been a lot of excitement in recent years about how learning analytics can provide insights into learning and teaching and support evidence-based decision making in education. At the same time, the diversity of tools and sensors in a higher educational context and the diversity of data generated, pose great challenges to collection, integration and analysis of data, presentation and understanding of the analysis results, as well as privacy management. In this talk Chen will discuss these challenges in the context of existing literature and practices and look into the possible solutions to address the challenges.

Bio:
Weiqin Chen is a full professor in Human-Computer Interaction in Oslo and Akershus University College of Applied Science (HiOA) and an adjunct professor in SLATE at the University of Bergen. She has over 20 years research experience in the area of artificial intelligence in education. Her most recent research focuses on privacy issues and interoperability in learning analytics.
