SLATE’s Board had its second meeting 3 June. SLATE Director, Barbara Wasson, presented the Centre’s Annual Report from 2015 as well as the Action and Research plans for 2016.
Wasson explained that there is a great deal of interest in SLATE and high expectations. In particular, many people representing the educational sector and other research groups have been contacting SLATE to express their interest in potential collaborations and others to learn more about learning analytics. Wasson and co-leader of the Big Data Cluster Professor Weiqin Chen are preparing a description of the concepts of big data and learning analytics in the context of adaptive and personalised learning. Wasson has also been invited to present SLATE is at least 15 times since the funding was granted last June.
The 2016 Action and Research Plans for 2016 are focused on establishing the foundations for future activity. The Board accepted the reports and stated that they were impressed with what SLATE has accomplished thus far. During the meeting the Board members contributed suggestions of possible additional initiatives SLATE can undertake.
The next Board meeting will be in November 2016.
